I froze on the beach and it changed everything.

I just came home from an incredible trip with my family (more on that later). One of the highlights was hopping across big beach boulders on the rocky shores of Canada. It felt adventurous, playful, and strong, exactly how I want to move through life.

But as I was doing it, I flashed back to another beach moment a decade ago in California. My boys were just 4 and 2. They challenged me to do a long jump on the sand, like I used to back in my college track days.

And I froze.

Here I was, a trainer coaching women to build strong, action-ready bodies… but in that moment, I didn’t feel safe in mine. I was scared to run, scared to jump, scared my body wouldn’t respond the way I wanted.

But I took a deep breath, I ran, and I leapt.

That jump reminded me of something I’ll never forget: strength is about more than muscles. It’s about trusting your body to keep showing up for you in every season of life.

Before the kids’ sports schedules took over.
